YES!!! I'm currently doing exactly that! I have an HP DeskJet 500
hooked up using a mini DIN 8 rotary switch (connected to my ROM 01 GS
serial port #1) so I can choose between either the DJ500 or IW2. I also
have the parallel port hooked up to my 386 (and in fact using another
rotary switch setup can print to the IW2 via COM1).
The one thing I have noticed (in case you were considering hooking up both
parallel and serial) is that the parallel port takes precedence. In fact,
I have to disconnect the cable at the IBM so the DJ500 will recognize the
serial port interface. There is a _great_ set of macros and information
regarding hooking up your DJ500 using AppleWorks 3.0 on GEnie. It is by
Jim Couch. Nothing else is needed!
