What is a Video Overlay Card???

Hello!

My name is Mike Holt.  I have an Apple ][gs that I have recently been 
buying tons of hardware for, and I was thinking about purchasing an Apple 
][ Video Overlay Card.---the only problem is, is that I have no earthly 
idea what is does.

Could someone out there please tell me what an Apple ][ Video Overlay Card 
does, and how it can help me have some fun w/my ][gs and at the same time 
be more productive with it also.

I would appreciate some info. very much!
