Good news - there is a *really* simple solution. Just get a copy of HDT
Primer (a wonderful collection of low-level SCSI tools). I don't know
how much they cost in the USA, but here they sell for about the same as
AfterDark.

Once installed (a special SCSI driver), you can mount any Apple II
formatted HD and access GS/OS and HFS volumes (the former requires the
PRODOS extension) as you do on the GS. The partitions have a "Apple I"
icon. Other utilities allow you to modify low-level parameters and do
many more weird things with the SCSI.
