I don't think Escher created many colour drawings. Most (all?) of
the ones I've seen are pen-and-ink or pencil sketchings. Besides, a
3200 colour picture won't be very stable with a MIDISynth piece playing
at the same time.

That's just the way Escher drew them. Not much you can do about that.
