Re: What is a HD crash?

In a previous article, gachenb@eis.calstate.edu (Greg R. Achenbach) says:

"Crash" is an all encompassing term applied to any failure which causes
a Harddrive to lose data. Originally the term meant 'head crash' which
occurred when the read/write head made direct physical contact with the
platter resulting in scratches on the platter and deformity of the
read/write head itself - truly a crash!

>2. What would the repair shop have done (if anything) to fix it?

Whatever it took. No way to speculate without more info.

>3. Is a HD that has crashed unreliable?

How reliable is the repair shop? This, too, is an unanswerable question.
After all, how reliable is a car that has been repaired? Get my point?

>4. Does this sound like a good deal?

I don't know about you but I've spent more than that on dinner and a
movie. "Goodness" is relative. Personally, if I had the $75, I'd take
this offer.

Ask the seller to show you it is working or guarantee a refund if it proves
to be defective when you install it. Without seeing it in operation you
are accepting the seller's word that it has been actually repaired.
