The way I do it when that happens is using block warden.  (or a similar block
editor..) Follow the root directory, and change the byte right before the
filename to 00 (hex).  Then use Mr. Fixit in Fix mode and that will get you
back any blocks that those files were missing.  Other than that, you're
screwed.
