Actually, _no_ special hardware is needed.  If you're just connecting two
Appletalk devices together, get a regular serial cable (i.e. from the
imagewriter or whatever) and connect the Mac and the GS.  You only need
PhoneNet connectors if you're connecting 3 or more devices in a chain.
This solution is way cheaper, and easier to deal with. It's how my GS
is hooked up to my LaserJet. Hope you haven't bought the PhoneNet 
connectors already!
