Having just talked with him, here is the deal: As of version 1.6
which was just posted online last night, the prodos8 script does
not allow colons in filenames. The prodos.fst script probably
allows slashes (p8 seperator) although I haven't checked it.

Exactly. You could also create a filename that was all spaces and
make life difficult for people using cli environments, but why?
A future version of the prodos.fst script may screen out slashes
(by modifying the code to check for 0x20 to 0x60 you no longer need
to check 0x30 to 0x39 (numbers) or for periods, plenty o' room :).
