Apple II <--> Newton Connectivity

I've been participating in the Apple Newton in-store demonstration
program, so I've gotten to know (and love) the Newton fairly well. I've
seen some pretty neat things, too... for instance, a beta terminal
emulator, with which I was able to log into my unix account using any old
modem. Pretty cool.

Now, somebody on comp.sys.newton.misc has announced that they are planning
on writing a multi-platform connection utility, and when I asked them
about Apple II support, they answered with an enthusiastic 'yes!". This
raised some questions in my mind, both technical and informational.

First of all, just how many Apple II users out there are thinking of using a
Newton (or already are)?

Second, does the GS's built-in AppleTalk have the capabilities to do
whatever it is that the Macintosh's ADSP tool does? I ask because there
is a shareware Newton Package Downloader (package = program) which
requires this tool, as does the Connection Kit (as far as I know).

I'd really like to hear some discussion on this topic here. What do _you_
think of the Newton, as an Apple II user?
