II GS to Mac/DOS, take 2

A few days ago, I asked about translating IIGS files to
Mac/DOS. Thanks to all those who replied, first of all.

Unfortunately, there are still problems, so perhaps I
should specify details.

A friend of mine (SO, really) uses a Circular Dichroism
spectrometer run by an Apple IIGS. Data analysis software
in her group are on Macs. No problem, AFE right? Well,
almost. The IIGS only supports 5.25 DD disks. She has
a 5.25 drive hooked up to the Mac using Apple File
Exchange for System Software v6.0.5 (from "Get Info" in
the File menu.) This version of AFE will NOT read 5.25
ProDOS disks. It can read 3.5" 800K ProDOS (and format,
as well.) It can read 5.25 DD DOS disks, however.
The knuckleheads who put the CD machine together tailored
the boot disk (!$&#&--no hard drive on the thing, either)
st it fires up the CD collection program directly at bootup.
That is, I have no idea what version of the OS it runs!
When turned on, the only information given is that it uses
ROM version 01 (1987 or so vintage.) The manuals, as
usual, provide no information about such things.

Is she clear out of luck? Direct translation to Mac
seems hopeless. Are there PC programs out there which
can read 360K ProDOS disks (there are a couple of PCs
in the Computer Facility here)? That way maybe she
can copy to a DOS disk, and use AFE to go from DOS -> Mac.
Any other ideas, short of using a digitizer?

Many thanks in advance,

dave
