AWGS db HELP!!! (please)

I have a problem with an AWGS (v1.1) Database file.  It's my address book,
so the problem has assumed a bit of urgency as the Christmas cards remain
unmailed.  I can't seem to get the file to load. I made the database over a
three week period, so it was started and stopped a number of times...and
without any problems.  Imagine my chagrin when I tried to open it to use it.
 
I'll get the error message "A serious system error has occurred.  Press the
restart button," or on occasion I get a note advisory "No further
occurences [sic] of text found."
 
At one time or the other I was able to read the file in the Word Processor
and this is what I found (first 7 lines):

This appears to be an ASCII text file.  However, I don't know how I got it, or
how to make any use of it.  Is there anyone who can shed some light on this
for me?  I'd like to know if I did something wrong, and what that was. Most
of all, I'd like to be able to recover the file in a usable format.
