MacWeek, Dec. 6 1993, Page 10, reproduced in entirity without permission:

(Headline, bold)
The Apple II is dead

Cupertino, Calif. -- An era has ended. Apple last week quietly
dropped the last of the Apple II machines.
In an internal communique Apple said the Apple IIe, which made its
debut in January 1983, was officially dropped from the Apple product
list on Nov. 15.
Apple will still offer Apple II technology through an expansion card
available for most LCs and Performas. The company will also continue
to sell Apple II accessories, including floppy drives and CD-ROM
drives, and provide service to the existing machines.
The AppleColor Composite Monitor IIe was also dropped from the
product line.

Notes: I bought a //e in February, 1983. $2,000 bought me a 128K
machine, monochrome monitor, and a single floppy disk. $200 less than
list price! Serial number is in the high 4-digits. "Performa" and
"LC" refer to two lines of Macintosh computers; there are several
Performa models that will not take the Apple II compatibility board.
I don't know what else to add.
