HyperC'ing Modems

Does anyone have any dirt on writing drivers for the SSC in HyperC -- if
I need the HC.system improvements, whatever... I am interested in writing
a client/terminal program for a local bbs'ing project, and to ensure that
the coding goes off smoothly between the server and the GOOD OLE APPLE
][s in the field, we're using C as a base language.
My specific job is writing this terminal program. I am competant
in ASM, less so in C and would not be afraid of writing some handlers fot
re the data coming off the ACIA and passing it to hyperC. I hope to write
the bulk of it in C, however, eventually making the whole mess into a sys
file that can be distributed widely and booted easily.
Again, any info on I/O ops of the HyperC stdlib, or ideas about
how to rework printer calls (putch is listed as writing a character /the
the current output device/ in the HyperC docs) into serial card
interfaces would help me quite a bit. I can trade for neato peeks and
pokes <grin>.
I realize gurus like Andy Werner or Mike Pender (greyelf?) may have
already covered this territory years ago, but I'm trying to get off on a
good start. Please direct me to the appropriate FAQs or LISTSERVs if they
still exist (esp the old HyperC mailling list - I've lost the address).

ps. My collaborator on the other end of this project is
tenser@fubar.bk.psu.edu. He is better-versed in C than I and will no
doubt be about to explain suggestions in C to me slowly and carefully so
that I can understand them :-)
