I don't know about the SRAMs. Could be.
Another source of trouble could be the CPU. When I looked at the "shmoo plot"
that came with my "14MHz"-CPU, I found out that the CPU had passed the tests
only up to ca. 12.8 MHz. 
I suggest that you look at your shmoo plot if you have one. If not, try a 
48-MHz-crystal, then a 44-MHz-crystal, ...
