Sound CDev problem!

All of a sudden, my sound CDev decided it didn't want to remember which 
sound belongs to each event.  It started when I installed the Oscar trashcan 
icons and sound which I DLed.  So I removed both of those, and ***re-
installed the sound Cdev & all the standard sounds***
But it still happens!  I don't have this problem with any of my other 
CDevs...  Oh!  I suppose a more precise description would help, eh?  OK-- 
let's say I change the System Beep sound to Frog & close the CDev.  I never 
hear the frog croak.  So when I open Sound up again, what do I see?  System 
Beep: Not Assigned (!)  And this happens for every event and every sound 
that I've tested (I've tested various combinations of 3 or 4 of each).  What 
gives?
