The symptoms are: If you launch AppleWorks/UltraMacros (note that this
problem _only_ occurs if UM is active and that this problem has always
existed with UM-patched AppleWorks) from Finder with AppleTalk active or
Twilight II installed -- there may be others, but these two seem to be
the main culprits -- you may get a crash. Others have reported, and I
have found this to be true, that launching from ProSel-16 gets around the
problem (at least with the conflict with Twilight).
The surest way to get the crash is to have Twilight active, launch AW
from Finder, quit AW, launch AW again. On second launch it will crash.
If you turn off UltraMacros (which you can do in AW4) the problem goes
away. So, it is _not_ a problem of AW not handling interrupts correctly,
it is UltraMacros that has the problem. And yes, I believe, it is only
with timer-related interrupts. I have never heard of anyone having
problems getting to the Control Panel or crashing after accessing the
control panel.
