     It is true, that's the difference between the DeskJet 500c and
the DeskJet 550c :

DeskJet 500c  ~$400  3-color ink cart. (poor "black" is brownish mix of all 3)
DeskJet 550c  ~$600+ 4-color ink (includes real "black" )
