Re: AppleWorks 4.0 arrives

According to Quality Computers, they shipped a few copies of
AppleWorks 4.0, then found a problem with the software, and have put
shipping on hold until the problem is fixed. Everyone that has
already received a copy will receive an update when the problem is
taken care of. They didn't specify what the problem is.

AppleWorks 4.0 is truly cool. If you use AppleWorks Classic (and have
an enhanced //e, //c, or better), you should definitely get it, with
one minor caveat:

The macro player included in AppleWorks 4.0 requires 256K or more of
RAM to run. If you need a macro player, and don't have 256K or more
of memory, you should stick with AppleWorks 3.0 (unless you want to
add more memory, which I'm sure Quality would be happy to help you
with).

AppleWorks 4.0 provides you with oodles of new configuration options
-- the Set Standard Settings for AppleWorks window has over a dozen
items in it, and every one of them leads to a submenu containing three
to eight configurable options.

My favorite new feature is actually the simplest one -- I like that
style changes (underline, boldface, etc) each have a separate
character that appears in the text. It's easy to see styles that way
(underline text has the MouseText ellipsis in front of and at the end
of the text, which looks like little underlines, except kind of grey).

I haven't gotten into all the new features yet, but I've looked at a
few of them. Most of my use of AW4 has been in the word processor,
which is actually probably the least-changed module.
