John Scully, the one-time soft drink executive who led Apple Computer Inc.
during its ascendancy, resigned yesterday as chairman of the company that
pioneered easy-to-use desktop machines.
The move was not a suprise. Sculley stepped aside as chief executive in June
amid a personal computer price war and internal tension over the company's
direction.
Sculley's resignation comes one day after Apple reported a 97 per cent drop
in earnings for its most recent quarter, to just $2.7 million US. The company
attributted the decline to the industry-wide pricing war for the personal
computers.
