Those who knows me know that Switch It is the default environment that I
boot my GS into. I used Switch It everyday and fount that it is very
stable and usable. Just some of my little 2 cents worth...
1. Switch It has a little "problem" that when you open a file, it won't
display the current directory of the application. If you are trying to
use SuperDataPath, like what I have tried, forget it, it won't work.
I think Kangaroo will work, but unfortunately, it is incompatible with
some of my other softwares...
2. Contradict to most believes, I think setting "stack sharing" to Off is a
good idea. This is because:
1. I don't normally open more than 3 applications at once. If you do,
then forget this.
2. Some applications required different settings. For example, Switch It
manual states that AWGS requires 16K, HCGS requires 20K. I also found
out that Shangai II requires 8 to 12K (if more or less than these, it
will crashed). Some applications don't like you to set the stack space
to be too big or else it will refused to load, so you can't set to 20K
and expect everything to work. But if stack sharing is off, and the first
condition is true (so that you won't run out of stack space), you won't
encounter these problems.
3. It does seem like switching is slightly faster with stack sharing off.
Of course this might be just an illusion.
3. You might want to put all those Switch It compatible software list in the
SpeedyLaunch menu, so when you just want to be sure that the next
application you load won't crash, just choose it from there.
Overall Switch It is a great product. I like is a lot and hope that you can
enjoy it too. I have tried Multi GS and The Manager (demo), and they are not
as good IMHO. And yes, I am looking forware for the day when Switch It, GNO/ME
and TMTerm becomes one integrated environment so I won't have to switch to
text screen.
