The DJ1200C is NOT in the same family as the Deskjet's. You can't use a
Deskjet driver period. You can use a Laserjet one or a Paintjet one.
I have the Postscript version that has a parallel and Appletalk interface.
I have been able to use HP LJ3 drivers with the printer to give 300x300
b/w output. I've used Paintjet drivers to give so so colour output, although
I plan to experiment with this. I have been unable to print to it from a
GS using the GS's LW driver for some reason I can't understand, even though
I can from a Mac.
The DJC/PS gives really nice text/graphics output. I can print beautiful
256+ colour pictures from an Amiga using a driver for the 1200C, and also
from the NeXT using a PPD and uPrint. Also the Mac/PC output is very nice.

It shouldn't be that hard to make the driver. Studio for the Amiga was
upgraded a very short time after the 1200C came out.

The Deskjet1200C/PS uses Postscript Level2, so that wouldn't do you any
good with the GS. What you need would be a Laserjet driver and a native
1200C driver.
I might point out that I do not have a serial port on mine, but that may
be different with the 1200C.
Hope this helps.
