I agree with each and every point made by Neil.

And to add my $.02 about filename length, I would perfer to see them stay
ProDOS legal, but still have the 3-letter suffix. As I pointed out earlier, I
usually grab a bunch of files from different archives all at once, and as far
as I can tell, you have to rename each one individually under unix, adding 
another step for each file over the limit. You should still be able to come
up with unique names, and stay ProDOS legal, and then have _descriptions_ in
an index file.

And on the point of index files, one per subdirectory seems the most logical
to me, anybody else have a different opinion?
