Then I received the following mail (which I quote without permission, but I
won't identify the authors either :-) ):

PLEASE don't abandon the project if you fall $60 short or something! If
it comes to that, I'll try to scrape the missing bucks.. btw, where do I
pay?

While am at it: if/when you/whoever get the drive, please use proper
suffixes for filenames! The files at grind.isca.uiowa.edu don't contain
*any* suffixes. Most are .bsq's, but not all.

Steven,
If there is a shortage, why not advertise the need for some extra bucks
and see if more pours in. I know of at least one person who did not contribute
who might do it now if the request went out. Not the full $80 - $100 but maybe
$20. If the request is made with an address to send it to.

Hey, I hever sent my check in. Will you still take it? Where can I
snail-mail it to?

(end of mail)

Oops, I didn't mean to imply the project was off. The drive just isn't ordered
yet while we look for a lower price. But I think another $50-60 in contribu-
tions wouldn't hurt. Any excess funds will be saved and used for the archive.
I'm sure Steve Chiang will come up with ideas. Heck, if we get over $1200 we
will even look for a drive > 1Gig ! :-) And we will consider a CD-Rom project
too, which will cost at least $50 (?? just guessing ??).

So, for those who still want to contribute, send a check (payable to Steve
Chiang) to :

Re: the lack of suffixes. I like it that way :-) Seriously, I am soliciting
comments and advice on orgainzation of the file structure for grind.isca.
Almost all files are binscii'ed, the few binary files have a .shk or other
suffix. Ideally, all file names should be descriptive and legal ProDOS
filenames. I'm inclined to keep the segmented binscii-ed files, as well as
the decoded shrinkit/NuFix library files in the archive. (I finally put
sciibin up this summer, but haven't used it much yet. Eventually more files
will be available as (g)shk files.)

As I've said before, I'm looking for someone(s) to run the archive. The first
two volunteers vaporized as soon as I set up accounts for them. I don't want
to do that to the next one, so I need to know someone is dependable and serious
about running the archive before I activate another account (or they may go
POOF too) :-)
