Gee, with all this talk against the Apple Extended Keyboard II, I think
I'd better say something to defend it. A few things The Herbster! likes
about his Apple Extended Keyboard II:
- much quieter and softer touch, when I lived at home typing out a
paper on the standard GS keyboard at 2:37AM (which seems louder in the
wee hours) was a constant complaint from my sister. When I got the
extended keyboard, she didn't notice the typing anymore.
- it makes my GS look more like a "real" computer to PC and Mac
users.
- function keys! Worked well with the PC Transporter, and there are
some utilities out there that will allow you to configure them.
- adjustable angle to maximize typing comfort.
- the esc key is where it should be.
- it's got LED's, though unless you have a ROM 3 GS or a PCT you
won't find much use for them. Still waiting for someone to write a
utility that will use them as drive activity lights for those with
internal hard drives...
- it's got command and option keys on either side of the space bar
which makes keyboard shortcuts for those who are lazy :)
- the inverted "T" cursor keys. To me this seems more of a natural
layout.
Of course there are some draw backs, such as:
- $300.00CAN!!! Like most Apple hardware, rediculously priced.
- not as portable, it doesn't fit in my GS carrying case.
- big, it takes up a good portion of my very limited desktop.
