There is a way to change Prodos file types. I wrote a program awck that does it. If I could get directions for uploading it, I could do that for you.
This program works in ProDOS 8. I think you said you have a IIgs. The System 5.0 software may have a feature that will allow you to do this.
You might want to consult your manual.
One third possibility is in your telecom software. If you can't
download a file into a text file, you could try (but I don't recommend)
using your capture buffer to retrieve the file. Simply turn on your
capture buffer and type the file on the screen. When finished,
turn the capture buffer off.
