Overwritten files recoverable?

Hi,
	Is it possible to recover files that have been overwritten in
Appleworks or Appleworks GS?  If I remember correctly, Appleworks saves to
another file first before deleting the current file and renaming the new file. 
Does Appleworks GS work the same way?
	I'm asking cos I overwrote an important letter (no backups 8-() and
couldn't find it when I tried to undelete it (maybe because of the current file
being there?).
