Lets backtrack here shall we, it might wake up some memories.
A few years ago, I asked a number of people: Why doesn't Apple provide
Apple ][ users with a scanner ( and added they could make money off of
it). There was basically two replys to this question. "Apple didn't want
to do anything that might take away sales from the Macintosh. The other
was that "the GS wasn't a strong enough of a machine let alone a ][ E. And
then along came The Qickie, by Vitesse, who made alot of people eat their
words. Apple was still quiet. Then, (according to Mr. John Portier)
Vitesse worKed on a packaged deal for a full size scanner and software
(they even had a prototype working) but decided not to produce it. He
cited, a high price and not enough demand as the reasons not to. Some said
it would be competing againest The Quikie. Apple finally produce a driver
but I haven't heard if that would work with their color scanner. Nor have
I seen or heard of an applcation to utillized it.
I would love to see and would buy a true color application that utillized
a color scanner. The big question is which color scanner to use, that
wasn't expensive. The word I got was that HP'S scanner was faster then
Apples and, untill October first, was less expensive.
One last note, I heard, at a user group meeting that Vitesse was working
on an application that would utillize their scanner to do color scans
through software.
Happy Computering!! Jim
