A short while ago, the following information was posted in regards to
building a hardware handshaking modem cable for the Apple IIc for use
with ProTERM:
Apple IIc Port Diagram where:
5 1 1 = DTR
4 2 2 = TxD
3 3 = Signal GND
4 = RxD
5 = DSR
Connection to RS232 cable:
Apple IIc RS232 connector
1 ------------> 4 (DTR), short 4 (DTR) --> 20 (RTS)
2 ------------> 2 (TD)
3 ------------> 7 (Signal GND)
4 ------------> 3 (RD)
5 ------------> 6 (DSR)
I have a few questions regarding this information.
First, will shorting 4 (DTR) to 20 (RTS) in the RS232 connector cause
the DTR shift from ON-to-OFF everytime I switch the RTS to false? If
so, should I configure the modem *not* to respond to the DTR signal?
Second, does the DSR signal mirror the CTS signal? That is, when the
CTS signal falls, does the DSR signal fall as well? If not, might it
be better to wire computer pin #5 (DSR) to RS232 pin #5 (CTS)?
I am not very familiar with RS232 specifications, so any help with
these would be appreciated.

PS: I've also heard in the past that the Apple IIc's pin #5 is
actually a mislabelled DCD pin. Any truth in this?
