I suspect you are right but that makes me feel like I'm being held hostage
with the ransom of buying something I don't need in the _hope_ something I
do need will be developed later.  With a few notable exceptions (certainly
none worth the whole quoted price) the improvements slated for Appleworks 4.0 
are already available as patches.  Speaking just for myself, I already have 
the majority of those and certainly all of those which I believe I need.  To
bundle new things with those old ones is an excellent marketing ploy.  But
it does not incentivize me to buy them.  I believe it would have been a better
service to the customer to offer individual updates for each package to current
owners and a bundled package for new customers.  I'm sure pricing could have
been worked out in a way to benefit buyer and seller alike.
