AMacs Questions
AMacs is (I understand) an Emacs clone that can be run on 8-bit Apple IIs.
My copy I got via ftp from tybalt.caltech.edu:/pub/apple2/8bit/source
It comes as a 216K .SHK archive. Much too big for a 5-14" Apple floppy.
I tried exploding the archive on an MSDOS machine with "nulib", but
that utility claims the .SHK file's integrity is compromised.
Browsing through the file, it looks like a lot of references to Merlin,
the assembler, and there is an indication of a Lisp implementation
in the code.
Before I go further with this, can someone save me time and tell me:
1) Does AMacs run in 128K, does it require a RAM card, or more disk
space than a floppy can provide?
2) What *are* the minimum requirements to run this? And/or to run
it usefully?
3) Can the documentation be fetched or provided, outside of this 216K
(and suspect) .SHK archive?
4) Can the simple binary, plus associated file, be fetched? The archive
probably has MERLIN source.
5) What do people think of this editor? Doe sit have extensions, like
some emacs clones, like mail/news-readers and subshells?
Thanks in advance (I read this group, but would prefer E-mail, since
c.s.a2 is so voluminous) !
