   X4, &K3 are default values, so it's not really necessary to set them.
   setting register S95 will override the W* setting, so no need for W1.
   and setting S95=46 will get full protocol responses.

  it seems for the Zoom modem, all the necessary parameters are set by
default (for hi-speed+v.42bis).  though i do set s11=50 and s95=46.
