Hyperstudio & laserdisc control

Hi all!
 
I am a Spanish teacher & excited because our new program includes lots of
video dialogues on laser disc that I will be able to access from the barcodes
provided in the teachers edition.
 
My question is this: what are the _additional_ advantages of going to
"level III" and using Hyperstudio to control access>? In other words, what wil
I be able to do that I _can't_ do with the barcodes, & how complicated is
it as I am unfamiliar w/ Hyperstudio. (or Tutor-tech)
 
p.s. naturally, all the tech gurus are pushing me to try to get a Mac for
all that :-/
additonal advantages being?
