Re: What's It All About, Ian?

Joe,
You have to realize that _everyone_ is not going to like your
newsletter. In my opinion, if you get this upset every time someone
posts something negative about your newsletter, then you aren't going
to last very long. People will think that the reason that there
aren't any criticisms about SSII is because anyone with a criticism
apparently is going to get flamed.
Any publication is going to get its fair share of criticisms
and compliments. The smart publication will take the criticisms and
see what changes they can make to overcome the criticisms. The unwise
publication will say that the reader is wrong and will continue as
always. Needless to say, the unwise publication won't last long.
I realize that you are emotionally attached to your newsletter
especially since it is, in part, an extension of you. I think that a
more constructive response to criticism is much more appropriate and
better for the well being of your newsletter. Instead of flaming, you
can merely point out why you are doing things they way your are, and
leave it at that.
In my opinion, your attack on Frank is in extremely bad taste
and not in any way appropriate. When you sent him a free copy of SSII
you should have realized that he might not like it. You decided to
go ahead anyway, but now you are flaming him for not praising it.
You insulted him several times by implying that he was trying to help
kill the II line because he isn't supporting your magazine the way
you would like. You also implied that his comments aren't valid
because he doesn't have as much technical knowledge about the GS as
Ian Schmidt. Know I consider myself a friend of Franks, and I happen
to know that he doesn't go around criticising things just for the hell
of it. I myself have seen the first issue of SSII and I feel that
frank's statements were quite justified. I also know that frank is
extremely supportive of the Apple II and implying otherwise is a real
low blow.

Well, that's my thoughts on the matter..
