We don't. You obviously do :-)
If and when I need the extra computing power, I will buy whatever brand of
computer suits my purposes. But that doesn't mean my Apple //GS is useless.
Jumping on the bandwagon and getting the latest Pentium-based PC isn't
necessarily going to acheive much more than put a hole in your back pocket.
I bought my GS as an investment, and it performs the tasks I require it for
very well indeed.
Even the humble Apple II has it's uses e.g. it runs Appleworks, which is
all your average family requires for doing wordprocessing, spreadsheets and
databases. I don't need a 66 Mhz '486 to write a letter on, or to keep track
of my video collection, or to play a game of Zany Golf or DuelTris: my GS is
more than up to those tasks.
It is a common misconception that more Megahertz and more colours and more
resolution is the only factors that matter in choosing a computer. It is a
common misconception that a 1 Mhz, 6 colour, 280x192 isn't capable of doing
many of the common tasks that a computer user requires.
Hell, even the GS has a multitasking Unix shell. Even my Apple ][+ could
assemble my biggest arcade games in less than 30 seconds using the LISA
assembler, or compile a 500 line Pascal program in less than a minute using
my CP/M based Turbo Pascal compiler.

So what's your point? You don't have a point! If I ever need to create
ray-traced images in real-time, I'll let you know.
