It's kinda easy. Shoot at them, they will retract into the ceiling. Then be
quick enough to get past them before they come down again. That's the room
with three sets of tentacles, in that with only two sets, you just jump
through them.

I haven't seen a walk-through of the game, but I can give you a general hint
that works all the time: If you are puzzled, shoot at it :)
