Apple III help please?

Hello,

I recently got hold of an Apple III computer system w/o software or docs.
My question is does anyone have any info on the Apple III computer as to how
old it is (relative to the Aplle iie or GS?  Also if anyone could post info
such as hardware specifications (memory etc...) I would be very grateful.

Finally, I need to purchase some software for this machine, i.e wordprocessor 
spreadsheet and maybe system software. If anyone knows I would appreciate
hearing where I could get this type of software.
