I talked to Terry yesterday afternoon about this. He's not too keen
on actually ordering all the parts for the upgrade kit (he wasn't making
any money at all... basically doing the seven of us a favour the last
time). However, he will gladly do any desoldering, socket installation,
etc. at $10 each (labour for 15 minutes), plus shipping.
He suggests that user groups purchase the Sanyo/WDC 65816's and mail
him the original accelerator and the 14-MHz chip. You need a special
tool to extricate the socketed 65816 without damaging it. For ZipGS's,
he will solder in new skinny SRAM sockets and a socketed oscillator.
I'm not sure what the procedure is for a TWGS. When you get it back, it
will have the new 65816 inserted and all you have to do is plug in an
oscillator of your choice and the SRAM's. You supply the parts, Terry
does the soldering.
He only wants the accelerator, 65816 and sockets (he can provide
sockets if you don't know what kind to buy). Don't send the SRAM's or
oscillator since you can install them yourself. This keeps the value of
the package down for insurance and customs purposes. There are a few
tricks you can do to avoid being hit by duty/tax at the border, but I
won't go into those here.
If you or your usergroup wants to take Terry up on his offer, he can
