You need a serial card.  This plugs into one of the slots in the Apple,
and gives you a 25-pin serial port to plug the external modem in with.
You can usually get them fairly cheap.. $45 or so.  If I find any
ads for one, I'll let you know.. unfortunately, all my magazines and
catalogs are in storage.
