As far as I know, there is only one that is a true IDE controller: The
Turbo IDE made by JLANGE7 on Genie. (Don't try to get him through the
internet-genie mail gateway -- it won't work. No, I can't forward mail
as I'm not on Genie; sorry.)
The propaganda sheets should be on some of the larger ftp sites. Look
under the 'info' directory. (Try grind and cco first.) If you can't
find the info, let me know and I will mail or post it.
The new Turbo IDE is supposed to work with _all_ IDE cards with an
approximately 3x speed improvement over the Vulcan Gold. It works
with both the IIgs and IIe, although I don't know if different ROMs
are required. I also don't know if it works with any any other
Apple-II's-with-slots. It is supposedly compatible with SCSI cards
in that both can reside in the same system.
I think the current cost is ~ US$150 + shipping from Deuchland (sp?)
NOTE:
1. His smail address changed on 1 Jul 93. Make sure you are
using the current one (noted in the current propaganda sheet).
2. I have not used this card. [ I am interested in getting it,
but haven't quite figured out how I am going to back up ~200 Meg
without a tape drive (implying SCSI) ... currently using floppies
for 40Meg :( ] Therefore, I cannot vouch for it. I haven't,
however, heard of any problems or limitations with it other than
not having the Vulcan's pseudo-slot option.
