Re: ongoing HD problems - help needed

Hello Jacksonville!

I am not sure if this will be of any help or not but... :/

First, are you using System 6.0.1? If so, try using the ProDos8 v2.0.1.
Why? Because first (at least from my stand point) you would want to
eliminate the possibility of their software being only ProDos8 compatible
and if you do not get any kind of errors while under ProDos8 but you do
under ProDos16, then the software is geared to run under ProDos8.
Second, are you running your GS in fast mode? Have you tried it in
the normal mode? If not - do so. If the GS works well in normal mode
then it is a timing problem between the disk drive and the computer.
Lastly, do you have a UPS attached to the disk drive? Brown outs
can cause havoc with disk drives. If your area is subject to brown outs
then this could also be causing the problem.
As finaly thoughts: If none of the above turn out to be true, then
we probably need more information. Such as:What were you running when
you first noticed this was happening? Does this seem to happen more
often with certain pieces of software? Did you use the installer to
install System X? If not, then maybe you are having the same problems
I had (ie:Things go along smoothly for a while and then start to get
worse and worse until the system crashes.). I went back to ProDos8 and
everything works fine for me now. I boot System 6.0.1 afterwards to do
whatever I want under it.
   Hope this helps. :)
