No, prob! I do it all the time! Just cover the extra hole with a tape.
Funny that the AE 3.5" drive knows when a HD disk is inside (and reports
an error) although it's a DD drive. But the hole-covering trick works...

Anyway, it always worked well, even on SuperDrive Macs...
