Re: Software Solutions II: It's Out!
Thanks for your kind words, Dave. I'm glad you liked the premiere issue of
Shareware Solutions II.
Regarding your suggestions...I'll be happy to print a 'Letters to the
Editor' or a Question and Answer column. So far, though, no one has sent me
any questions. If and when they do start to appear, I'd be happy to provide
answers, when I can.
As far as the format of the newsletter, I chose 3 columns because I like the
way it looks. Since there are no graphics and no extraneous white space, I'm
not really sure if a 2 column format would allow me to fit more on a page,
but I'll experiment. Since Shareware Solutions II really was my first
serious venture into desktop publishing, I know I have a lot more to learn,
and figure that the newsletter can only get better in the future.
As you so rightly pointed out, I am running on very thin margins, and just
cannot afford to pay anyone to write articles. In any case, I have a lot to
say and feel that it'll be no problem for me to fill up each issue with
useful information. At some point, I would like to publish an article that
compares the 5 freeware BBS'es available for the Apple II, but that will
have to be left to someone who has tried out AppleNet, Warp6, ProTree Elite,
Prime, and Metal/FutureVisison. As a matter of fact, I asked one of the
authors of the EBBS system if he'd be willing to write such a comparison,
but he wasn't really interested.
In any case, I'm relieved that Issue #1 is finished and that people
generally seem to like it. I've done my part to promote my vision of what an
Apple II newsletter should be, and Issue #1 stands on its own.
Feedback, both positive and negative, can only help Shareware Solutions II
to get better.
