Use "Off the (collectors) shelf" items;

Find a Sirius Joyport, and a set of Atari 2600/VCS/7800 wireless
controllers. The latter are available on eBay fairly often, the
former, not so often.  But perhaps someone has one..

Of course, this is pure switch input, no analog, so things like
Blazing Paddles will be a bit more challenging to work with the
interface, but games that rely strictly on directional movements and
not speed or distance of the stick movement will work just fine.
