The 550C does support text output, and has several built-in fonts, but
doesn't support Epson or ImageWriter commands.
It is compatible with any program which supports the DeskJet 500
command set (Hewlett-Packard PCL). You can get an Epson emulation
cartridge for the DeskJet 500, but I don't know if it will work in the
550C.
PR#1 and LIST will work fine, but if you want colour listings or font
changes, you'll need to send special commands to the printer. Most of
these are documented in the manual supplied with it, so there
shouldn't be much problem for BASIC programs.
The New Print Shop probably supports the DeskJet 500, but I don't know
if it supports the 500C, so you may not be able to get colour output.
You can set up a custom printer in AppleWorks 3.0 to support the
DeskJet 500 family.
