AppleCat Deaf Diskette/Modification?
Hello there fellow Apple fanatics...
Some of you may remember that I asked about getting a modem that was compatible
with Telecommunication Devices for the Deaf (TDD's) and I received quite a few
responses from various people who informed me that the Novation AppleCat could
emulate a TDD. I then embarked on a search for one of those old 'Cats...and
succeeded in getting one. Thanks to all who helped out...I have yet another
request for help...
Excerpt from Novation's _AppleCat II Communications System Owner's Manual_:
(page 13)
DEAF DISKETTE
The Deaf Diskette is a Com-Ware II diskette for operating the Apple-Cat II in
a deaf terminal mode. When the diskette is installed, it requires a simple
command on the Apple to put the Apple-Cat II into the Deaf mode. Data is
automatically transmitted and received at 45.5 baud, Baudot coded. The Apple
computer is then fully compatible with the deaf network. Prior to using the
deaf diskette, the Apple-Cat II must be returned to the factory for a simple,
no-charge hardware modification.
Okay, I'd like to locate a copy of this so-called 'Deaf Diskette', and would
like to learn what sort of modification was done to the AppleCat that is
mentioned above, so that I can get it working as a TDD. Anybody who has had
experience with this, please let me know. Or if anybody knows where to go to
get the disk/modification, etc, pls let me know. I will post the results, when
I get things figgered out!
