Apple may not have meant it when they said "Apple II Forever," but

State of the Art nowadays - IIgs, 4mb RAM (this will cost you only $120-$150),
80+mb HD, 14.4k modem ( _not_ Zoom :)
A 'workable' system would be 2mb RAM (4mb is so cheap, you may as well get 4),
at least two 3.5" disk drives (but preferably a hard drive), 2400 bps modem
(but, 9600 and 14.4k are so cheap...)
Upgrading your ][+ to a GS really wouldn't be worth the effort, IMHO. You
can get good used boxes for under $400. I've seen loaded systems going
for as little as $700.
