And not just any monitor. It must be able to scan down to 15kHz. There are 
very few of these. Commodore has one called the 1942 (latest model) which
is a .28 dot pitch with speakers built in. It will work with the GS, and 
the Mac. You'll have the ongoing hassle of the cables though. You want to
get a monitor switch box ($<20). Then you send a cable from the monitor to the
box. And 2 cables to the 2 computers (one to each making sure the pinouts are
appropriate).
 
Mitsubishi also has a 14" monitor that will work. Some of the older moniters,
such as the Sony 1302 will, but not the newer 1304 (the latter works with a Mac but not a GS).
 
In general there are few monitors than scan down to 15kHz. Idek makes bigger
ones.
