While I'll admit that such claims of emulation performance sound kind of
hard to believe, I saw a PowerPC based Mac today at COMDEX. It was very
fast, and I would rate it under emulation at about Quadra 700 or Centris 650
level. The main reason it is that fast is that all toolbox calls are native
PowerPC code. So if a mac app spends a lot of time in toolbox call, which
most do, it will be fast. If it spends a lot of time out of toolbox calls,
it will be slower. I think the IIci comparison is is for just 68000 emulation.
What has this got to do with Apple II? Well Apple II emulators will run
real fast on a PowerPC Mac... :-)
