     Is that a High-Speed MNP or V.32 (or better) modem?
Any error-correcting modem will hang-up if it can't maintain a good enough
connection before it allows 'glitches' to come through (isn't that nice).
Maybe the phone company is working on the lines around your area, causing
excess 'noise' in the signal.
