Re: HP IIIP & ][gs
To use a IIIP with a IIGS, you'll need a "Mac Plus to ImageWriter I" cable.
I don't know if the IIIP has both a parallel and serial port, but if it
does, I suggest going the parallel route. It's almost 4 times faster from
GS/OS.
I have 4 megs in my IIP Plus and know that it is over-kill. 2 megs should be
more than you'll need. Do not, under any circumstances consider getting HP
brand memory. You should be able to pick up a no-name 2 meg RAM card for
about $110-$120. Check Computer Currents or MicroTimes.
You'll need a set of printer drivers for GS/OS. I'm using Harmonie from
vitesse; many are quite happy with Seven Hills Independance.
That's about it. Keep in mind that new IIIP's have dropped in price to about
$899.
If you use AppleWorks, NAUG has a LaserJet disk that has all the SEG.ER
codes in it already set up, saving you the hassle of entering all the codes
yourself.
The only last word is...do it. HP Laser printers work like a charm on the
IIGS. I love mine, and the only regret I have (not really) is that I didn;t
wait a little longer and save another $50 or $75.
